Maintenance Information
Maintenance Information
Proper care helps preserve the beauty, finish, and structural integrity of your WS&BCo. sculpture or fountain. Care requirements vary by material, finish, climate, installation method, and environmental exposure.
Stainless Steel Sculptures
✓ Recommended Care
- Wipe regularly with a soft, clean cloth to remove dust and surface dirt.
- Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners compatible with stainless steel.
- Follow the grain direction when cleaning brushed finishes.
- Remove salt, chlorides, pool chemicals, and industrial contaminants promptly.
- Inspect welds, joints, anchors, and mounting points periodically.
- Address discoloration or isolated rust spots before they spread.
⚠ Important Precautions
- Avoid abrasive pads, steel wool, strong acids, chlorine-based cleaners, and harsh alkalis.
- Protect polished surfaces from scratching and heavy impact.
- Keep carbon-steel tools away from finished stainless surfaces to reduce contamination.
- Confirm that outdoor sculptures remain securely anchored.
- Arrange professional repair for structural damage or failed welds.
Fiberglass Sculptures
✓ Recommended Care
- Dust and wipe with a soft cloth using mild cleaner when needed.
- Inspect painted or gel-coated surfaces for chips, cracks, fading, or separation.
- Clean stains promptly before they become embedded in the coating.
- Use an appropriate protective wax or polish only when compatible with the finish.
- Repair small chips or cracks promptly to prevent moisture intrusion.
⚠ Important Precautions
- Avoid sharp impacts, crushing pressure, and abrasive cleaning tools.
- Keep away from open flame and high-heat sources.
- Avoid unapproved solvents, strong acids, and aggressive chemicals.
- Limit prolonged extreme heat and intense UV exposure where practical.
- Make sure the sculpture is securely installed to prevent tipping or falling.
Bronze Sculptures
✓ Recommended Care
- Remove dust gently with a soft, dry cloth or soft brush.
- Use mild cleaning products appropriate for bronze and the existing patina.
- Clean stains or deposits promptly.
- Where appropriate, conservation wax may help protect selected finishes.
- Inspect mounting points, assembled sections, and fasteners periodically.
- Consider professional maintenance for valuable exterior or public-art installations.
⚠ Important Precautions
- Do not aggressively polish a patinated surface unless a polished finish is intended.
- Avoid strong acids, alkalis, abrasive pads, and corrosive chemicals.
- Protect the sculpture from hard impact and careless handling.
- Expect natural patina evolution outdoors; it is not automatically a defect.
- Seek professional assistance for major corrosion, looseness, or patina failure.
Marble & Natural Stone Sculptures
✓ Recommended Care
- Remove dust with a soft cloth or soft natural-bristle brush.
- Use pH-neutral, stone-safe cleaning products when needed.
- Blot stains quickly rather than rubbing them deeper into porous stone.
- Clean carved recesses carefully with a soft brush.
- Inspect periodically for cracking, movement, joint failure, or staining.
- Use sealers or protective treatments only when suitable for the specific stone and finish.
⚠ Important Precautions
- Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar, strong alkalis, bleach mixtures, and harsh chemicals.
- Protect edges and carved details from heavy impact.
- Avoid sharp or abrasive objects that can scratch polished stone.
- Move heavy stone with appropriate lifting equipment and trained personnel.
- Keep the sculpture on a stable, properly designed base or foundation.
Marble Fountains & Water Features
✓ Recommended Care
- Clean basins and visible stone surfaces regularly.
- Maintain appropriate water level and clean water quality.
- Inspect pumps, strainers, drains, nozzles, plumbing, and water flow.
- Remove leaves, mineral deposits, algae, and debris before they cause blockages.
- Repair leaks, cracks, damaged joints, or coating problems promptly.
- Follow manufacturer instructions for pumps, lights, and electrical components.
⚠ Important Precautions
- Disconnect electrical equipment safely before service where required.
- Avoid corrosive chemicals that may damage stone, metal, seals, pumps, or landscaping.
- Do not allow pumps to run dry.
- Winterize fountains in freezing climates when required.
- Use qualified professionals for electrical, plumbing, structural, or complex fountain repairs.
